Home of an inventor Mario Puratić

The house in Sumartin where Mario Puratić was born in 1904, famous for innovations in the field of fishing, especially the so-called Puretic Power Block, a “strong pulley” for pulling fishing nets that were pulled by hand until his invention with minimal technical aids. The pulley has become indispensable on fishing boats around the world.

The house was built sometime in the 19th century and the reconstructions it has undergone since the time of construction are obvious. First, there was a ground floor house with a gabled roof and one room that served as a kitchen and dormitory. It got its present appearance at the end of the 19th century. A one-story stone house with a residential attic in which there was a kitchen, on the ground floor there was a tavern, and on the first floor, there were a “tinel” and rooms. The house is one of the few in Sumartin that has retained the original layout of the rooms in the interior. The first floor is accessed by a stone balustrade. The facades have four longitudinal window axes, in the attic, there were gabled luminaries in the attic axis lowered under the roof eaves. Originally, the roof was hipped with a slab of stone slabs. Today, one part of the house and the roof has been inappropriately upgraded, the slope of the roof and the tile roof have been reduced. it would certainly enrich the cultural offer of Sumartin.

I really want to visit Brač! How do I do that?!

Brač is an island which can be reached by sea and air. Here are some basics.

BY SEA ///

There are two ferry lines connecting Brač with a land.

First is in Supetar, connecting Brač with Split, and the second is on Sumartin, connecting Brač with Makarska. There is a third port that can be reached by regular local boat lines, and that is Bol, on the south part of the island. Here, you can reach Brač from Split, or from a neighbouring island Hvar. More information about ferry lines and timetables you may find here.

Also, if you own or rent boats, you may just sail into any place on island Brač. We suggest Brač Deluxe for transfers!

BY AIR ///

Brač has its own small airport, situated in the middle of the island. More and more flights are introduced each year, and all the necessary information you may find on the airport’s website. If you need transportation from the airport to any other place on the island, may we suggest contacting some of the #bestofbrac service providers, such as Taxi Peša, Brač DeluxeRent a Motorino or M&B rent. Check them out!
