Milna
Haven for all sea lovers!
Milna is a sea oriented municipality situated on the west coast of the island. It consists of five villages – Milna, Bobovišća, Bobovišća na moru, Ložišća and Podhume. Town of Milna is known as the island’s biggest natural harbor, perfectly located for all sailors. Especially those who are eager to visit Dalmatian islands.
To get a better insight of the municipality, here are some interesting facts. It was developed around the castle of a noble family Cerinić in the 16th century. The municipality might have started developing in the 16th century, but there are prehistoric archeological findings proving the island was populated a long time before. It is also one of the most famous harbors in this area. It used to have a shipyard, among others known for the development of a worldwide famous sailboat called “bracera”.
A story about the town can not be complete without mentioning an islet Mrduja. The islet is being pulled with ropes once a year because two islands can not resolve a dispute who does it actually belong.
