Škrip is the oldest Brač setllement. You might think it’s strange, but the first village on the island wasn’t created on the coast, next to the sea. On the contrary – it was up in the inland of the island, 10 kilometers from Supetar.Škrip – 3000 years old village
It’s name is Škrip and to this day it remained the great monument of the rich history that shaped its visage. This 3000 years old village holds imprints of many different tribes and cultures. Some say Greeks ruled this place for some time, then Illyric tribes as well as refugees from Salona.
This is why, when you stroll down the old streets of Škrip, you’ll see a castle of Cerinić, a mausoleum, a Roman temple, couple of sarcophagus, parish church of St.Helena, tower of Radojkvić as well as two museums – Museum of the island Brač and Museum of oil. All in one place – a very charming small town! So, if you want to see what life looked like on Brač centuries ago, you know where you’ll have to go 😉
