2nd World Championship in Olive Picking

The island of Brač is set to host the 2nd World Championship in Olive Picking. How amazing is that?! The event is set to take place in beautiful small village Postira, from October 11th to 14th,  and will feature teams of 4 pickers (2 men and 2 women). Participants will be Mediterranean countries with a tradition in olive oil production but also others which have no olive tree but which are connected with olives and olive oil.

Last year, Postira hosted teams from nine countries – Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Greece, Montenegro, The Netherlands, France, New Zealand and domestic Croatia (Postira and Dol inhabitants). The absolute winner of the 1st World Olive Picking Championship was the Croatian National Team with 107.6 kg of olives picked. The second place was taken by the Dutch Team whilst the third place was the Hungarian Team, with the latter two teams both coming from countries where no olives are actually grown. At the festive evening of proclamation of winners, the winners stone medals were awarded by the County of Split and Dalmatia’s Prefect, Mr Blaženko Boban as the envoy of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Mr Andrej Plenković.

This year the national teams of participant countries will count four members (two women and two men members), whilst the categories in which they will measure their strengths are traditional picking “na sakete” and modern picking (using shakers and rakes). Besides the competition part, workshops will be organised, as well as tastings, tours and entertaining evenings in order to experience Postira, the eco-ethno village Dol but also the island of Brač itself, in the best way thus enriching the tourist post-season.

I really want to visit Brač! How do I do that?!

Brač is an island which can be reached by sea and air. Here are some basics.

BY SEA ///

There are two ferry lines connecting Brač with a land.

First is in Supetar, connecting Brač with Split, and the second is on Sumartin, connecting Brač with Makarska. There is a third port that can be reached by regular local boat lines, and that is Bol, on the south part of the island. Here, you can reach Brač from Split, or from a neighbouring island Hvar. More information about ferry lines and timetables you may find here.

Also, if you own or rent boats, you may just sail into any place on island Brač. We suggest Brač Deluxe for transfers!

BY AIR ///

Brač has its own small airport, situated in the middle of the island. More and more flights are introduced each year, and all the necessary information you may find on the airport’s website. If you need transportation from the airport to any other place on the island, may we suggest contacting some of the #bestofbrac service providers, such as Taxi Peša, Brač DeluxeRent a Motorino or M&B rent. Check them out!

Once you’re on the island, rent a car, use taxis or local transportation. For online booking with discount, click here.
