BOOK PROMOTION | Marko Vušković, Supetranin of the World Voice

We invite you to the presentation of the monograph by Maria Barbieri: “Marko Vuskovic, Supetranin of the World Voice”, published by the Supetar National Library on Saturday, 5.10.2019. years

“Maria Barbieri’s monograph on Mark Vuskovic will finally fill the gap in the knowledge of the greatness of an opera artist in Croatia and Central Europe in the first half of the 20th century.” (Prof. Vladimir Kranjčević, conductor)

Marko Vušković was born on 21.7. In 1877 in Supetar, he graduated from high school in Split and graduated singing at the Vienna Conservatory.

He was the Grand Champion of the Opera of the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb, the pillar of the beginning of its systematic third performance since 1909 and the largest Croatian dramatic baritone. His interpretations of some of the characters: Nikola Šubić Zrinjski, The Haunted Dutchman, and other roles in the works of Richard Wagner, Scarpia in Tosca, etc., are included in the anthology of Croatian music and theatrical art and are unsurpassed to this day. Marko Vuskovic was a complete artistic personality, as excellent as a singer (he was educated in Vienna with the most famous singer-teacher of the time Joseph Gänsbacher) and as an actor whose role was minutely elaborated in the manner of a great dramatic actor. Vuskovic’s career began in Opava, continued in Berlin and Würzburg, and he was a champion of the Prague National Divas for one season. Then, at the invitation of the director of the Zagreb Opera Srecko Albini, he came to Zagreb in 1909, worked there until 1917 when he went to Vienna and was champion of the Vienna Volksopera for three seasons. After an extremely successful concert tour of South America in 1920/1921. he returned to Zagreb and until his retirement he wore a baritone repertoire. He also worked in opera directing, wrote Autobiography and the study Put in belkanto. He also acted as a singing educator.

I really want to visit Brač! How do I do that?!

Brač is an island which can be reached by sea and air. Here are some basics.

BY SEA ///

There are two ferry lines connecting Brač with a land.

First is in Supetar, connecting Brač with Split, and the second is on Sumartin, connecting Brač with Makarska. There is a third port that can be reached by regular local boat lines, and that is Bol, on the south part of the island. Here, you can reach Brač from Split, or from a neighbouring island Hvar. More information about ferry lines and timetables you may find here.

Also, if you own or rent boats, you may just sail into any place on island Brač. We suggest Brač Deluxe for transfers!

Brač has its own small airport, situated in the middle of the island. More and more flights are introduced each year, and all the necessary information you may find on the airport’s website.
