Croatian community in Chile

On Friday, May 17, 2019, at the Waterman Forum, the Svpetrvs hotel will host the promotion of the documentary series “Croatian Community in Chile”.

Television series “Croatian Community in Chile” was produced by Croatian Radio Television – Program for Croatians outside Croatia, and consists of 5 documentary episodes in which a number of interesting life stories of B & H emigrants were handled in a highly professional documentary style. It is estimated that around 200,000 Croatians and their descendants live in Chile today.

A 50-minute version with the most interesting fragments from all five episodes was prepared for the promotion in Supetar. The first carries the title “Towards the end of the world and back” and deals with the history of Croats’ arrivals in South America, and the other “In search of white gold” speaks of the first Croats who came to northern Chile, attracted by “white gold” or sodium nitrate then used it as a fertilizer, all in the unscrupulous conditions of the Atacama desert. In the third episode “The City of the World at the End of the World”, the first Croatians on the Ognjen land were attracted to the “golden fever”. The fourth episode “The prominent Croats in Chilean society” deals with Croatian representatives in politics, culture, education system, ecclesiastical hierarchy and entrepreneurial circles. In the last episode 5 entitled “Chilean Writers of Croatian Origin”, the Chilean Academy of Language among its 34 members also has 6 regular and 4 correspondent members of Croatian origin, all of whom come from the island of Brac.

The authors of the series are Mariana Campera and Damian Bazan Mamić, journalists of the Spanish-language editors of the Croatian Croat HRT Program.

Sponsor of the promotion is Croatian Heritage Foundation, organizers City of Supetar and Brač Culture Center, and host Svpetrvs Hotels d.d.

A prolonged panel discussion on the topic of Croatian Emigration in South America will be held, along with a projection of the Second Homeland of the Sutivan National Library, and the Blaca klapa will be attended by the program.

I really want to visit Brač! How do I do that?!

Brač is an island which can be reached by sea and air. Here are some basics.

BY SEA ///

There are two ferry lines connecting Brač with a land.

First is in Supetar, connecting Brač with Split, and the second is on Sumartin, connecting Brač with Makarska. There is a third port that can be reached by regular local boat lines, and that is Bol, on the south part of the island. Here, you can reach Brač from Split, or from a neighbouring island Hvar. More information about ferry lines and timetables you may find here.

Also, if you own or rent boats, you may just sail into any place on island Brač. We suggest Brač Deluxe for transfers!

BY AIR ///

Brač has its own small airport, situated in the middle of the island. More and more flights are introduced each year, and all the necessary information you may find on the airport’s website. If you need transportation from the airport to any other place on the island, may we suggest contacting some of the #bestofbrac service providers, such as Taxi Peša, Brač DeluxeRent a Motorino or M&B rent. Check them out!

Once you’re on the island, rent a car, use taxis or local transportation. For online booking with discount, click here.

All the emergency numbers you might need but we hope you won’t!
