On April 25th, Fiber week takes place in Supetar, island Brač, a conference on the development of broadband access in Croatia – regulation, standardization, planning / design, financing, construction, management and services begins.
Europe 2020 Strategy underlines the importance of broadband deployment to promote social inclusion and competitiveness in the EU. One of the main priorities of Digital Agenda Europe is the reduction of the digital divide. As identified in the Commission Position Paper, Croatia is lagging behind EU average broadband penetration level, and its economy would benefit from improved access to next generation access networks. By adopting the Broadband Development Strategy for the Republic of Croatia in the period from 2016 to 2020 and the Framework Program for the Development of Broadband Infrastructure in areas where there is insufficient commercial investment interest, the Government of the Republic of Croatia has determined that the broadband development is of interest to the Republic of Croatia and one of the prerequisites for the development of the modern economy and by the adoption of these documents it has been given a strong political and active incentive to create the conditions for speeding up the development of fast broadband internet access in the Republic of Croatia and achieving its availability and use at least equivalent to the EU average. The main expected objective to be achieved through the use of funds under the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014 – 2020 (OPCC) and national funding (public and private) is to increase national coverage of the Next Generation Networks (NGN) by 2023. The lecture will provide an insight into the current state of preparation of the call for proposals for co-financing the projects under the OPCC which will enable deployment of Next Generation Access Networks (NGA) in areas where there is insufficient commercial interest to invest.
Presentation will be in Croatian with simultaneous translation to English!
All conference sessions will be held at the Tourist Resort Velaris which is located on the north side of the island of Brac, in town of Supetar, in Vela Luka bay.

I really want to visit Brač! How do I do that?!
Brač is an island which can be reached by sea and air. Here are some basics.
BY SEA ///
There are two ferry lines connecting Brač with a land.
First is in Supetar, connecting Brač with Split, and the second is on Sumartin, connecting Brač with Makarska. There is a third port that can be reached by regular local boat lines, and that is Bol, on the south part of the island. Here, you can reach Brač from Split, or from a neighbouring island Hvar. More information about ferry lines and timetables you may find here.
Also, if you own or rent boats, you may just sail into any place on island Brač. We suggest Brač Deluxe for transfers!
BY AIR ///
Brač has its own small airport, situated in the middle of the island. More and more flights are introduced each year, and all the necessary information you may find on the airport’s website. If you need transportation from the airport to any other place on the island, may we suggest contacting some of the #bestofbrac service providers, such as Taxi Peša, Brač Deluxe, Rent a Motorino or M&B rent. Check them out!
Once you’re on the island, rent a car, use taxis or local transportation. For online booking with discount, click here.
All the emergency numbers you might need but we hope you won’t!
