LECTURE | Revelation in the Dragon Cave

Municipal Library “Croatian Reading Room” is organizing a lecture by Zoran Kojdic: “Discovering in the Dragon’s Cave” and presenting the scene “Dragon’s Cave – Brac Sistine” from the project “Terra Croatica – Brocko blog”, by Jadranka Nejašmić and Sime Strikoman, on Saturday, August 24 , in the library courtyard beginning at 9:00 pm.

This is the last in a series of Bol library programs this season on the cultural heritage of Brac as part of the long-standing HUM / CROART project aimed at promoting Croatian culture and art.

Among the murvian deserts, the Dragon’s Cave is the oldest hermit dwelling where we can trace the continuity of life from early Christianity to our day.

It contains reliefs carved in living rock that “cannot be styled or timed” (D. Domančić) and for whom it is impossible to say who and when made them.

Is it an “original monument from ancient Christian monastic (cenobitic) life”, as Joseph Ham thinks, or are reliefs made by Polish Glagolitic priests in the 15th century? according to the Apocalypse from the Book of Revelation of St. John the Baptist, as the priests of Don Ante Skobalj and msgr. Dr. Juraj Batelj?

We will find out about this, as well as about a number of other dilemmas and scientific opinions about a unique cave that “preserves a peculiar world that has moved out of dreams” (P. Simunovic) from the longtime guide and guardian of this Sistine of Brac – Zoran Kojdic.

He also starred in the play “The Dragon Village” and in the scene from the “Terra Croatica – Brocko blogo” project by the Glagolitic priest Juraj Dubravic, who came from Poljica in 1450, during the turbulent times of the Turkish zuma, and found peace in this Murvica cave.

He received the award of the Bol Tourist Board for enriching the Bol excursion offer in 2009, and for his contribution to the development and reputation of the Bol municipality in 2015. and awards from the Croatian National Tourist Board Man – the key to success in tourism, employee of the year 2016 in the tourist guide category.

I really want to visit Brač! How do I do that?!

Brač is an island which can be reached by sea and air. Here are some basics.

BY SEA ///

There are two ferry lines connecting Brač with a land.

First is in Supetar, connecting Brač with Split, and the second is on Sumartin, connecting Brač with Makarska. There is a third port that can be reached by regular local boat lines, and that is Bol, on the south part of the island. Here, you can reach Brač from Split, or from a neighbouring island Hvar. More information about ferry lines and timetables you may find here.

Also, if you own or rent boats, you may just sail into any place on island Brač. We suggest Brač Deluxe for transfers!

BY AIR ///

Brač has its own small airport, situated in the middle of the island. More and more flights are introduced each year, and all the necessary information you may find on the airport’s website. If you need transportation from the airport to any other place on the island, may we suggest contacting some of the #bestofbrac service providers, such as Taxi Peša, Brač DeluxeRent a Motorino or M&B rent. Check them out!

Once you’re on the island, rent a car, use taxis or local transportation. For online booking with discount, click here.
