New York in Supetar

Gallery Supetar, tonight, 23.8.2016. from 20.30 invites you to the opening of the photo exhibition “NYC Four Seasons … and something red” by Marijana Marinović. Marijana Marinović, who created her first Polaroid photos in her native Split, continues to work with photography while studying journalism at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Zagreb. Interesting people she met during the twenty years of journalistic career and about which she has written thousands of sentences and hundreds of stories have inspired her to record and remember the image as well.

Polaroid is her first and greatest love, an homage to childhood and instant photographs that adorned the refrigerator door, “fast” art that Marijana as a restless spirit quite fit – allows the complete whiteness of an image in just three minutes … Her first solo exhibition “Smiles … Speechless” consisted, of course, of 33 Polaroids of celebrities from Croatian public life as Severina, Oliver, Luka and Petra Nižetić, Vanja Rupena, Branka Bebić, Davor Gobac and Marijana Batinić, and took place in 2007 as part of fashion event Cro-a-porter at the Zagreb Fair.

The second exhibition entitled “Cities-escapes” of 2011. In Zagreb Gallery Velvet, was designed by artist and florist Saša Šekoranja, who hung her Polaroids in brass tags of Marijana’s favorite cities: London, Paris, Barcelona, New York and Split, and exposed only one photograph of the person – top model Helena Šopar, who initiated and inspired the exhibition.

Marijana is currently living “a little further from the Brač Channel” – across the Atlantic, and her adventures in New York began at 2015 by enrolling in a photography school in the New York Film Academy and is still going on – the camera captures the smiles of celebrities such as actors at Tribeca Film Festival, portrays successful Croatians in America, records a cheerful society and family gatherings, invents fashion stories, “bothering” friends to pose… and hours wandering around New York, wanting to absorb and capture the atmosphere of the Big Apple. In some of her New York wandering came the series of photographs “New York: four seasons … and something red.”

The exhibition is a charity – all the proceeds going to the association of children with disabilities “Brač buds”.

Price: Donations for children with dissabilites

I really want to visit Brač! How do I do that?!

Brač is an island which can be reached by sea and air. Here are some basics.

BY SEA ///

There are two ferry lines connecting Brač with a land.

First is in Supetar, connecting Brač with Split, and the second is on Sumartin, connecting Brač with Makarska. There is a third port that can be reached by regular local boat lines, and that is Bol, on the south part of the island. Here, you can reach Brač from Split, or from a neighbouring island Hvar. More information about ferry lines and timetables you may find here.

Also, if you own or rent boats, you may just sail into any place on island Brač. We suggest Brač Deluxe for transfers!

BY AIR ///

Brač has its own small airport, situated in the middle of the island. More and more flights are introduced each year, and all the necessary information you may find on the airport’s website. If you need transportation from the airport to any other place on the island, may we suggest contacting some of the #bestofbrac service providers, such as Taxi Peša, Brač DeluxeRent a Motorino or M&B rent. Check them out!

Once you’re on the island, rent a car, use taxis or local transportation. For online booking with discount, click here.

All the emergency numbers you might need but we hope you won’t!
