Night of museums on Brač | From the cave darkness to the starry dust

It seems that in the story of the Blessed Sacrament the history of all mankind is summarized. The story begins with the arrival of priests who have driven their spiritual pursuits in solitude to the starry sky, mapped on the rock of their first cave dwelling. In the thrill of modern times, the last hermit, the astronomer Don Niko Milićević Mlađi, tried to penetrate into the secrets of the universe by means of modern scientific methods in a small Moody Observatory. In honor of Don Nicholas astronomers from Višnjan observatory, two asteroids discovered in 1999 were named 10241 Milićević and 10645 Brac.

In the year of marking the fiftieth anniversary of the man’s fall on the moon, in the light of current space exploration, and especially Marsa, in the Night of the Museum we will meet at the Brac airport near Vidova gore, the highest peak of the Adriatic islands. Did you know that this small but exceptionally busy airport was already registered for space flights in 1992 when it was founded? Visitors to the Night of the Museum will have the opportunity to visit the airport, go on a small plane on the piste, look at the sky through the telescope’s lens, and Tonchi Peovic will present the idea of a sustainable aviation.

The idea of sustainable development, embodied in the genetic code of the island as a special microcosm, is also included in the revitalization of Blaca’s Desert. In the heated space for passenger reception, you expect an eco museum story and a photo exhibition. The Blaca desert is the first Brač museum to be photographed through a virtual walk, whose premiere presentation will be held in the Night of the Museum.

In the music program with the Klapa Hall, we will listen to the heritage music and the “spacecraft”. The Space and Observatory Blaca’s Desert inspired Valentine Bošković’s bracelet band for their album “Marsovska listina”. Announcing his first concert in Vidac’s Mount in 2046, especially for our Valentino Night of Music, he prepared another cosmic pop hit.

Sweet, homemade snacks will be prepared by our constant associates of Škrika, and the space cookies will make pupils from Supetar, Bol and Postira. In the Museum Night, thanks to the sponsorship of the Autotrans Arrive carrier, there will be organized a free two-way carriage – Bol and Supetar, from where the buses will start at 7pm.

We invite you to join our stellar journey. Bring the captain (umbrellas) if you get mired in rain.

We will start Friday, February 1, 2019 at about 7.30 pm!

I really want to visit Brač! How do I do that?!

Brač is an island which can be reached by sea and air. Here are some basics.

BY SEA ///

There are two ferry lines connecting Brač with a land.

First is in Supetar, connecting Brač with Split, and the second is on Sumartin, connecting Brač with Makarska. There is a third port that can be reached by regular local boat lines, and that is Bol, on the south part of the island. Here, you can reach Brač from Split, or from a neighbouring island Hvar. More information about ferry lines and timetables you may find here.

Also, if you own or rent boats, you may just sail into any place on island Brač. We suggest Brač Deluxe for transfers!

BY AIR ///

Brač has its own small airport, situated in the middle of the island. More and more flights are introduced each year, and all the necessary information you may find on the airport’s website.
